After a short break, Selector Live returned to the Strelka courtyard on 7 September 2019 with a concert of the jazz trio The Comet is Coming, who the Guardian described as ‘true heirs’ of Sun Ra Arkestra’s mystical cosmic forces.
The Comet is Coming
The Comet is Coming to destroy illusions. It will manifest new realities, perceptions, levels of awareness and abilities to coexist. It is a musical expression forged in the deep mystery. It is the overcoming of fear, the embracing of chaos, the peripheral sight that we might summon the fire.
Founded somewhere in London in 2013, The Comet is Coming is Betamax drums, Danalogue keyboards and King Shabaka saxophone. They conjure a 21st-century take on spiritual jazz where the music of Alice Coltrane meets Blade Runner and where doom metal, prog and meditative space-jazz collide to create something transcendent. After all, the end is only really the beginning.
Their new album, Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery, is released on 15 March 2019 by impulse! Records.
